The Knicks are on the doorstep and the World Cup comes to town this week, kicking off Thursday. As such, I figured let’s put together a list of places to watch.

I’m sure there are plenty of lists of sports bars showing the games. I kinda hate sports bars. Same shit beer and liquor from the same distributors. I’m trying to be elbow deep in a Korean hot pot watching Korea Republic take down Czechia. I want to be at Deans for a proper pint watching the lads take on Ghana.

*Disclaimer: In some cases I have no clue whether these places will actually be playing the games, but I gotta imagine if you go to Koreatown while the home nation is on the pitch you’ll be in good hands.

Korea Republic vs Czechia

Thursday, June 11 — 8:00 PM

Ahgassi Gopchang

The sister restaurant to Bourdain’s favorite spot, Baekjeong. Slapping down a few Kirin Ichibans and watching Korea Republic take on the fellas from Czechia sounds like a world-class Thursday night.

Canada vs Bosnia

Friday, June 12 — 3:00 PM

The Canuck

The only Canadian bar I know of is aptly named The Canuck and this place rocks. While very much a sports bar, this place is a cut above the rest. Independent, great Canadian poutine, and other Canadian favorites. Sneak out of the office a few minutes early, head over to The Canuck for a few Labatts as the fellas take down Bosnia. Sleeper pick.

Spain vs Cabo Verde

Sunday, June 14 — 12:00 PM

Boqueria

This may be a hot take but I kinda love Boqueria. Sure, there’s like nine of them including one in West Hartford (must stop). But the food is solid and they serve one of my favorite sangrias in the city. Not too sweet. I can also promise you their marketing team will be doing something fun for the game.

Mexico vs South Africa

Thursday, June 11 — 3:00 PM

Taqueria St. Marks

To kick things off, you will not be disappointed at Taqueria St. Marks. This place shows out for sporting events, the Mexican food is bomb, and despite my best efforts I’ve literally never had a bill surpass fifty bucks a head. A forgotten feat in NYC.

France vs Senegal

Monday, June 15 — 3:00 PM

Gigi’s Greenpoint

Gigi’s is one of my new favorite restaurants in the city. From the team behind Fulgurances. I’ve written about them in the past, but the rotisserie chicken meal absolutely blew me away.

French forward, they are leaning in heavy to the tournament, hosting French matches on the projector in the backyard and even releasing limited-edition kits, which of course we scooped up.

Australia vs Paraguay

Thursday, June 25th - 10:00 PM

Old Mates Pub

I’d honestly love to watch this game at what feels like the unofficial Aussie Embassy. Naturally they partnered with DoorDash and probably made a bag. Tickets go live June 11th (DashPass members get access two days prior). Whatever the fuck a DashPass member is.

Can anyone help a brother out with a ticket?

Brazil vs Morocco

Friday, June 12 — 6:00 PM

Beco

A buddy, colleague, and Outpost reader who is from Brazil suggested Beco in Williamsburg when asked where to watch the game.

Place looks incredible. Reservations go live tomorrow so keep an eye out. Miss seats that I’m sure will fly? They are setting up a fan zone. Pull up to the sidewalk. They just ask that you’re respectful of the neighbors.

How sick is that?

England vs Ghana

Deans SoHo

I’m sure Deans will do something cool. I may write about this place, or at least the group, too often but I truly do love them. Rumor has it chef is an Outpost reader.

Anyways, Deans did an awesome collab with Nike for the Knicks game the other day. Being that they have nailed the aesthetic of a classic pub, I’ve gotta imagine the ladies have a trick or two up their sleeve for the games.

Germany vs Curaçao

Saturday, June 13 — 1:00 PM

Heidelberg UES

I like to think I’m somewhat well traveled, or at least make an effort to take a poke at the map every now and then. When I tell you I had never heard of Curaçao in my life... don’t lie, you’ve never heard of Curaçao. Island nation. A pitching wedge from Aruba. Go figure.

Well, the boys from Curaçao are taking on a small little operation called Germany. Should be a fun one.

Anyways, I’ll be watching this one at Heidelberg on the UES. Place looks like it was plucked right out of the old country. Couple pretzels, a few steins, sure.

USA vs Paraguay

Thursday, June 11 — 9:00 PM

Where does one go for the USA game? Maybe Bar Oliver. Maybe Tom & Jerry’s. My two old reliables.

Likely.

Years ago I went to a watch party under the Brooklyn Bridge. It was organic and amazing. Like all good things, the partnerships team at Insert Big Corp got involved this go around. It happened to be Adidas, which I’m okay with. Looks like they did a cool job with a sweet little village. Great place to watch the game.

In closing, summer’s here. The city is buzzing. The World Cup only comes around every four years and this go around we have it in our backyard. Get out there. Use it as an excuse to have a few beers or a cheeky kiss…Maybe both.

See ya out there. Save one for me.
